International Group

NEXT INTERNATIONAL GROUP :

Read all about the program (below).  Candidates need to have come close to finishing the series "Overcoming Social Anxiety: Step by Step" so that we can spend most of the group time on behavioral activities.  Thomas A. Richards. psychologist, Matthew Whitley, behavioral therapist.

Transportation

Phoenix, the 5th largest city in the US, is a sprawling, west-coast-type of city of almost 5 million people. The international airport is in the city's center. Typically some people coming to the group choose to drive, but the majority of people come by plane. Upon arrival at the airport, there is an inexpensive shuttle that will take you from the airport to your hotel – about 5 miles.

Since you will (probably) not be able to rely on Phoenix public transportation, group members often pool together to rent a car during the 3-week period and share in gasoline costs. Group members usually work out transportation issues during the pre-therapy emailing program so that this is settled before the group begins.

Housing

Housing is not included in the program cost. We will research available hotels for the group and arrange the best rates for an acceptable hotel. To benefit the most from the therapy program, we ask that all members stay at the same hotel. The 2012 - 2018 groups stayed at an extended stay hotel, about 8 miles from the SAI clinic, which included a queen suite, living room, full sized kitchen (refrigerator, microwave, stove), cable TV, phones, swimming pool, and free continental breakfast. After we have chosen the hotel, you will need to make arrangements directly with the hotel for your stay.

Food and Shopping

You are responsible for your food and shopping costs. The clinic does not have facilities to provide meals. Many eating establishments, from fast-food to fine restaurants, are close to your hotel. Grocery stores, shopping centers, cleaners, etc. are also close to your hotel.

Medication

If you require appropriate medication during the program, you must make arrangements before you leave home and come to SAI. We do not have a psychiatrist on staff, and finding one locally that understands social anxiety is very difficult.
